German violin after Hopf, approx. 1880

This antique German student violin is a nice instrument that was built approx. 1880 in Saxony, following the traditional and sought-after Hopf-patterns. It bears the well-known HOPF-stamp on the outside of its back; the shape is a true expression of the inimitable Hopf-style. This violin was made of quality tonewoods, medium spruce was used for the top, the two-piece back is made of plain maple. Patination and a deep scratch on top at the left soundhole are minor optical flaws, a merely cosmetical disadvantage, without any impact on the sound of the instrument. It was thoroughly worked over by our luthier and is offered in immediate playing condition, ready to unfold its warm, dark but clear, mature and powerful voice.
